The epidemic of chronic kidney disease

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasingly being acknowledged as a worldwide public health problem which leads to progressive renal failure, cardiovascular disease and premature death. The Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES III) in the USA found that an estimated 20 million Americans have CKD.
